I was recently interviewed by the lovely Floradine from the Lotro Artists website, which is a great collection of articles about the fan-made music, art, fashion (and other aspects) of Lotro (Lord of the Rings online, a game which I love).
Following on from my summery Hobbit hole, I wanted to get in the Christmas mood by painting a cosy, snow covered Shire. Tolkien said snow was quite rare in the Shire, but I wanted to imagine how pretty it would look. :)
Seeing how much better than expected my last portrait turned out, I've now started to paint one of Gandalf. It's going a bit easier now I've had a bit of practice with skin tones and eyes, so might get it finished by the weekend.
The last time I tried to paint a person I was in school, and the portrait ended up looking pretty freaky, so I'm really happy that I can paint people that look like people - with a lot of work and patience!
I wanted to paint Hobbiton in all its summer beauty, with the party tree
in all its glory, and Bag End just round the corner with the garden in
full bloom. The fields were looking a bit bland, so I thought a few sheep would add to the rural, rustic feel.
I created it to show my artistic journey through Middle Earth, because basically, I love Lord of the Rings and couldn't think of anything better than to explore it though painting. I'll be posting my paintings, with links to buy them as and when they are for sale.
I aim to post once a week, after getting my currently completed paintings on here.
